The Invisalign Treatment Process

Consultation

Your journey begins with a consultation, where Dr. Mears assesses your smile and discusses your goals. Using a digital scanner, he will create a precise 3D image of your teeth and map out a custom treatment plan that showcases your smile transformation.

Custom Aligners

Based on your personalized treatment plan, a series of custom-made, BPA-free plastic aligners are produced. Each set of aligners is worn for about two weeks before moving on to the next set in the series, gradually moving your teeth into their final positions.

Regular Check-Ins

Throughout your treatment, you'll have occasional check-ins with Dr. Mears to monitor your progress and ensure your aligners are fitting as they should. These appointments are quick and ensure everything is moving along according to plan.

Reveal Your New Smile

After completing your series of aligners, your new smile is revealed. To maintain your new alignment, we will provide a final custom-crafted retainer to maintain your brilliant, straight smile!

Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs

Have questions? We have answers!

How often do I need to wear my aligners?

For best results and to prevent delays in your treatment timeline, you should wear your Invisalign aligners for 20 to 22 hours per day, removing them only to eat, brush, and floss. The aligners need prolonged, consistent wear to gradually shift your teeth into their ideal positions. Failing to wear them as directed can impede your progress and extend treatment duration.

Can I eat with my Invisalign aligners in?

It’s recommended to remove your Invisalign aligners while eating or drinking anything other than water. This prevents food and beverage particles from staining or damaging the clear aligner trays and maintains proper oral hygiene. Be sure to properly clean your mouth before re-inserting your aligners after meals or snacks.

Is Invisalign painful?

While you may experience mild discomfort when you first begin wearing a new set of aligners, this is usually just a sign that your treatment is working. Most people adjust to their new aligners within a couple of days and can continue with their daily activities without significant pain. Any discomfort is also typically much less intense compared to traditional metal braces.

How long does Invisalign treatment take?

The length of Invisalign treatment varies depending on the complexity of your case but typically ranges from 12 to 18 months. However, some minor tooth movements may be achieved in as little as 6 months. During your consultation, Dr. Mears will map out a precise treatment plan, complete with timing estimates and how many aligner sets you'll go through to achieve your desired smile. Consistent wear as directed is key to keeping your treatment on track.
